Niagara Falls Humane Society introduces a new way to adopt

Dogs Tay and Hallie and cat Slurpee: the current "Paw It Forward" Niagara Falls Humane Society "mystery pets."
The Niagara Falls Humane Society’s (NFHS) “Paw It Forward” program is changing how pets are adopted in the Niagara region.

The campaign, launched in January 2016, involves adopters allowing NFHS staff and volunteers to blindly match them with their new dog or cat or unknowingly deciding to adopt an animal preselected as a “mystery pet.”

To “paw it forward” is to sponsor the adoption costs of a particular animal at the shelter. These dogs and cats then become known as “mystery pets.” When the adoption of a “mystery pet” is underway, the new owners are presented with a waived fee, covered by donors, local businesses, and/or the NFHS.

Current “mystery pets,” Hallie, Tay and Slurpee, are looking for their forever families. When adopted, their guardian will be asked to "paw it forward" by designating the next “mystery pet,” subtracting the adoption fee from a homeless animal of their choosing.
